Soil Sampling Best Practice
For accurate soil analysis results:
- Take soil samples to the correct depth of 100mm (4 inches).
- Take samples every 2–4 hectares (5–10 acres).
- Collect a minimum of 20 soil cores and mix them together.
- Sample fields separately where soil type, drainage, cropping history or yield performance differs.
- Avoid unusual areas such as gateways, dung patches, drains, troughs or fertiliser spill areas.
- Take samples at the same time of year to compare results accurately.
- Avoid sampling during extreme conditions such as waterlogged or very dry soils.
